M6502 WIP

Posted by barry on 5 November 2011 at 21:08:00

For a while, I haven't been happy with the M6502 core we are using. Most drivers that use it require little hacks to make things work, and I firmly believe that it is holding up adding sound to the DEC-0 driver as the IRQs from the YM chip and the NMIs from the main CPU compete, which makes the YM chip stop generating the IRQs, and hence no sound.

I have ported MAME's M6502 core to FB Alpha and tested it using the Renegade driver. Currently all works as expected. I still need to spend time adding an interface for the new core, and then porting all the affected drivers over, before removing the old core.

Once that is done, I can look at sound in DEC-0 again.

FB Alpha 0.2.97.13 Megadrive Chinese Test

Posted by barry on 31 October 2011 at 20:34:00

This is a test release of the latest version of FB Alpha with a change to the Megadrive games descriptions. Hopefully, this will fix an issue with the program crashing when opening the game selection dialog on Chinese systems.

The test version can be downloaded here.

The amended source code can be downloaded here.

NeoGeo WIP

Posted by barry on 16 October 2011 at 15:29:00

Some preliminary footage of some FB Alpha NeoGeo WIP. Multi-slot and NeoGeo CD support have been added as can be seen in the clips below. There are some issues, left to resolve, particuarly with regards stability.

Sadly, due to at least two license violating builds of FB Alpha I have decided not to release this even when it is ready. We have tried diplomatic methods of attempting to get others to follow the license, but they still refuse. I don't like this taking course of action, but I like even more seeing the hard work of myself, the team, and contributing projects such as MAME abused by license violating builds. So, unless, we see some source releases then this WIP will never see the light of day.

Downtime

Posted by barry on 4 October 2011 at 20:25:00

My host is doing some work on October 6th at 08:00 EDT which means that my site will be inaccessible for approximately 12 hours. Apparently, the service will be more reliable from then on in, so the recent outages should hopefully be a thing of the past.

Slapshot

Posted by barry on 27 February 2011 at 20:39:05

Added some more games to the Taito driver, this time Slapshot and Operation Wolf 3. Both use the same harware and required a port of MAME's Time Keeper emulation to finish the driver.

Volfied

Posted by barry on 20 February 2011 at 09:35:43

I forgot to mention in my previous update, that I have also added a driver for Volfied too. It uses the PC090OJ sprite chip, but the background is entirely custom.
